Viewing Notes

I make no apologies for liking Rob Zombie’s movies. I like House of 1000 Corpses quite a bit. I love The Devil’s Rejects more than the average joe and I even had little issue with his remake of Halloween. I didn’t mind that he put a human face on little Michael Meyers and basically made him a serial killer.

However, Halloween II is plain ridiculous. Not only does Zombie take and keep this humanization of Meyers going but now he adds in that both him and Laurie are seeing a dead ghost of their mother and a little Michael Meyers? And adding in some goofy white horse which is supposed to be symbolic of the release of rage in dreams? Really? It’s just too much symbolism and way over the top. I wouldn’t of minded if at the beginning we had one shot of the ghost mom (Sherri Zombie). We’d get the idea. We don’t need to be told everytime we see Michael that he’s being driven by some haunting of his mother in his mind. It’s bad storytelling and after a few times it’s really just annoying.

What I do like about this movie and his movies in general is that he never holds back in his brutality. His movies are unflinching in the gore and kills and I like it. It’s freaky and gross and also entertaining.

If we could edit out the Moody Blues junk, the ghost mom and kid, the white horses and a few completely unnecessary scenes (Loomis on that talkshow with Weird Al??!) then it be an acceptable movie. But as it stands, nope…didn’t care for it much.
