I’m actually a fan of the Saw series. I think it’s much more clever than a lot of people who haven’t actually seen them give it credit for. Sure, the traps are gruesome but the storyline has been very clever and twisty. Plus Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith are fan-fucking-tastic.
And they make a return in Saw VI. I thought I had seen all of them up to this one but it turns out I missed Saw V. I actually thought Saw IV was muddled. In got a little too complex and I was reading Wikipedia throughout the film trying to figure out what in hell was going on. With VI, however, the storyling is very straighforward, has a nice turn of events as they always do and great, great traps and morality decisions. It fact I’d say VI is one of the better of the series. A lot has to do with Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton’s scripts. Wait until you see The Collector, which they did, later this year. It’s also fantastic. The guys have skills.
