While I do like Smokin’ Aces I understand that people expected more action out of it. But for me, the cast and buildup (and those Tremor Brothers) all made it a fun movie for me.
Smokin Aces too really just follows the same pattern. It’s a prequel with the same basis. An FBI agent turns up some information which causes a horde of assassins to come after him, even though he’s in protective custody. The Tremors are in this, but this time its the father, one of the brothers from the original, the fat retarded one and the hot chick (Leighton Meester believe it or not).
I liked the mix of assassins, the twist of the story and you can’t beat the shootouts and the Tremors shooting clowns into a building with dynamite tied to them. Tom Berenger as the FBI agent to be killed is really good.
It’s a movie that was more than the sum of its parts and ended up being better than I was expecting. Since I liked the first one so much, this delivered a lot of the same style but with more action.
