Viewing Notes

Having recently seen Shakma, which is a killer monkey movie I heard about Link and had to add it to the queue. Richard Franklin directed it and he also did Roadgames and Patrick (which of I’ve seen Patrick recently). It stars Terrance Stamp and Elisabeth Shue, which seems like a weird combo but worked. Stamp is a professor and researcher who studies chimps and Shue ends up coming to his house to help out. This is when Link, the main monkey of the house ends up going nuts after seemingly falling in love with Shue. At least that’s what I got out of it. There’s a creepy scene where shes getting naked to take a shower and Link stops her from closing the door and stares at her while she gets undressed and then after a minute of her trying to get rid of him she finally puts on a robe and kicks him out. From that point on it seems Link has a thing for her and gets the other monkeys to off Stamp and go after her.

As a movie I think Link is much better made and has way better performances from both chimps and humans than Shakma. It’s much more a thiller though, so depending on what you’re into they can fill different entertatinment needs. I was impressed by the animal handler work and how likeable Link was even after he goes nuts.

All in all its an impressive little movie and one I’m glad I’ve now seen.
