I’m a fan of the first Child’s Play and seeing how they’ve been out for so long I can’t remember for the life of me if I had seen the sequels. I had been meaning to watch 2 but then it disappeared off Watch Instant right as 3 showed up. So I decided to check it out.
3 picks up where I guess 2 left off. Chucky looks like a melted mess and the company that makes the Good Guy dolls goes back into production. When moving the old Chucky mess they drip his blood into the plastic mix and boom…a new Chucky is back. This time he’s out to kill Andy, his original owner, who is now off at military school because he’s “crazy” for talking about a murderous doll.
Chucky hunts him down and then decides he’s going to inhabit the body of this young black kid. “Chucky’s gonna be a bro!” he says even. So Andy, with the help of his nerdy ROTC buddy and a young Perry “Ari Gold’s wife” Reeves.
I think the FX of Chucky himself really holds up to this day. While some of the stuff is cheesy looking, the facial expressions are good and still come off very creepy. The movie seems hindered by being at the military school and then at the end out of nowhere there’s a carnival which is pretty crazy.
All in all I thought it was a pretty good sequel and a fun watch. Chucky is absolutely one of the more entertaining icons of horror and he delivers in part 3.
