Caught this gem at Terror Tuesday and apparently it has quite the following. I can see why, as The Hidden is an un-hinged science fiction flick with horror elements.
One thing that was apparent to me as I was watching it was that I had actually seen this movie before. Probably when I was much younger because while it was deja-vu familiar I didn’t know what was going to happen from scene to scene.
There were many things I loved about this movie. For starters, it goes balls out with the violence. The alien possessing people didn’t give two shits one way or another about killing people so every conversation ended with him putting some bullets in fools, whether he got what he needed or not. Second, all the performances were entertaining, especially William Boyett, the older gentleman who is host to the alien for a good majority of the film. His deadpan looks had me rolling. It was also great having Kyle McLaughlin in the film, as he’s already pretty alien like and his FBI agent wasn’t too far removed from his Dale Cooper performance.
Another thing that stood out for me was the music. It had some of the better Concrete Blonde tunes, some Lords of the New Church and I think I even heard some Iron Maiden in the beginning.
While for me, it wasn’t perfect only because it has around 2 moments in the film where it sort of grinds to a halt and you’re hoping for more action. Minus that minor gripe, The Hidden was a total blast and even more so with a big Terror Tuesday crowd.
