Viewing Notes

Now this is the kind of Italian cinema I can get behind! What a fun, out of it’s own damn mind, crazy ride.

The movie is filled with so many nonsequitors that had be laughing and yet drew me into the film. What was with those crazy kids running around the church yelling “wheeeee!” or “high-ho Sillllveerr…awayy!!”. Why in hell was that old couple trying to use a phone in a church and why did she keep saying “groovy” to describe everything? How come Evan shows up to work for the first day and ends up in bed with Lisa that night like they’re old sex buddies? And how come instead of sleeping with her, he decides to mess around with a map? And why, instead of paying attention to him does she read a Mickey Mouse comic? All these sort of crazy questions came to both myself and Brian’s mind as we watched this, but really, who gives a shit? It’s not important and every new crazy thing had me waiting in anticipation for the next one.

The base story of the demons being sealed under the Church was pretty cool and once they’re unleashed and wrecking havoc on the inhabitants who end up locked instead is a treat. The young Asia Argento does a pretty great job and Feodor Chaliapin Jr. as the crazy old bishop was a highlight with his rants about sinners and gruesome death.

This is a movie totally up my alley and it delivered on every level for me.
