I’m still uncertain as to whether I think THHR is clever for it’s self-referential references or not. Look, I liked them in Dead Snow, and it may be because I tend to be more forgiving of foreign films and they were played for laughs there. Here, they are but it seemed overkill.
What did this movie have going for it? Well Sophie Monk is pretty blazingly hot. You really can’t take your eyes off her when she’s on screen and they totally have her playing up the sex kitten role and she’s topless in a lot of scenes. What else? The kills vary from pretty decent, gory stuff to some overkill CGI people splitting in half scenes. So a little good and bad.
I do like the whole thing about tracking down some unknown horror movie. I think the babyface mask is creepy.
Ultimately though, the movie isn’t just all that compelling. There’s not enough wow moments, and the characters aren’t memorable at all. It wasn’t a terrible film but it’s not anything I’d recommend.
