Viewing Notes

I almost missed this farce because I just thought it was another shittastic Friedberg/Seltzer parody depending on horrific pop culture references. In fact, it’s actually a National Lampoon’s flick and the third in the Dorm Daze series, one I think is decent for what it is. While Dorm Daze 1&2 aren’t Animal House or Vacation quality, they succeed in their humor by playing up the ridiculous and by not depending on using lame references to pop culture. Do they feature the standard low brow humor you’re expect from a youth sex comedy? Yep, sure as hell do, but I have no issues with this. I won’t sit there and belly laugh but I do get my chuckles and I can think of much worse ways to spend the evening.

Translymania is the only Dorm Daze flick to actually make it to the theater and if I had only gone on the terrible poster I wouldn’t of realized it was a sequel to a series I actually enjoy. Glad I figured it out and also because it helps me to finish my National Lampoon’s project.

The film falls right in line with the other movies featuring a lot of the same main cast who are now on the way to Romania to study abroad, prompted by the goofball Rusty who has an internet girlfriend there who turns out to be a hunchback. Add in a storyline about vampire hunters trying to kill a head vampire who is bringing back his wife, via the body of one of the students and you get the idea. Lots of fart jokes abound and you get some breasts.

All in all Transylmania works as a Dorm Daze flick. It’s not better then the first two but it’s watchable and I had some laughs and enjoyed seeing the cast again. One could do worse on a Friday night with some friends into this type of flick.
