Overview

A mysterious global blackout yields countless populations to simply vanish, leaving only their clothes and possessions behind. A small handful of survivors band together in a dimly-lit tavern on 7th Street, struggling to combat the apocalyptic horror. Realizing they may in fact be the last people on earth, a dark shadow hones in on them alone.

Viewing Notes

I’m a huge fan of Brad Anderson’s flicks so I had been really looking forward to this. It’s a mixed bag and frustrating in a lot of places. What’s great about it is the sense of dread and surprises that Anderson builds throughout. However, it’s all marred by the stiff performances from the entire cast. Hayden Christensen is just not a great actor, John Leguizamo came off with an overly forced dramatic act, Thandie Newton was weak and Jacob Latimore ended up being kind of annoying, which had more to do with his character than himself.

The ending left me jaw dropped and not even in a good way. I really didn’t care for it.

However, for all I bad mouth it, once I let the movie steep into my conscious I decided what I believed Anderson was going for and wrapped my head around the movie and ended up liking it more than initially thought.

Not my favorite Anderson but a movie I think people might enjoy arguing about, if anything to figure out what the fuck that ending was.
