I’m not sure what possessed my wife to check this out from the library, or what possessed me to say ‘ok’ to watching it, since I pretty much knew it was going to be crap.
Sadly, I wasn’t disappointed. It’s become pretty apparent to me that Danny McBride is a one trick pony; and that pony is dead, if it was ever alive in the first place.
The sad part is if you removed McBride from the film and steered away from the dick jokes, this could be a fairly decent Princess Bride style fantasy/comedy. Most of the other actors actually do a decent job and the SFX and settings actually are well done.
Natalie Portman is a standout here, doing a fine job amongst a mess of a movie.
