Overview

This English-language adaptation of the Swedish novel by Stieg Larsson follows a disgraced journalist, Mikael Blomkvist, as he investigates the disappearance of a weary patriarch’s niece from 40 years ago. He is aided by the pierced, tattooed, punk computer hacker named Lisbeth Salander. As they work together in the investigation, Blomkvist and Salander uncover immense corruption beyond anything they have ever imagined.

Viewing Notes

Good, but not quite great. I felt like Fincher missed the mark with this. He simultaneously tried to put too much content into it and cut too much out of it, resulting in something in-between that didn’t work as well for me as the original movie.

Rooney Mara did a pretty kick-ass job as Lisbeth Salander. Unlike other critics, I didn’t feel like she was sexualized in a way that was antithetical to the novel. I do feel that there wasn’t quite enough depth given to her character though.
