I bought the directors cut on Blu-Ray since I’d read an article about it recently and had always felt the original theatrical release was missing something; that it was chopped up in the editing room and too much was left out.
The directors cut is a hefty 194 minutes, over three hours, so it really requires your time and patience. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the original release, so I can’t say for sure what was added, etc. but I can say that this version flowed really well and felt like the epic sort of movie I’d always felt it could be.
I always forget that Edward Norton played the king, since he’s hidden behind a mask the entire time. Also, Eva Green is stunningly beautiful in this movie. Well, she’s stunningly beautiful all the time, but even more so here.
