Better known as I Spit On Your Grave, Day of the Woman is pretty damn unsettling. The infamous rape scene goes on forever (and is actually three separate rape scenes strung together, which makes it even more unbearable), but it’s the lack of music and straightforward presentation that really makes it disturbing.
I’d heard so much about this movie over the years that I kind of figured I knew what I was going to see, only to be really surprised by the low key way in which everything was presented. It definitely caught me off guard.
The only shot I didn’t like in the entire movie was the POV shot of the main character, Jennifer, as she’s swinging from side to side in a hammock in the later part of the movie. It’s very disconcerting and really takes you out of the film. Other than that, very well done, especially considering the subject matter.
