Days later and I still haven’t been able to really solidify my thoughts on this film. The cinematography is gorgeous, despite the fact that I saw it digitally projected instead of in 70mm. And yes, you could tell. I’d love to see it in its original aspect ratio. Not sure what my chances are of that; probably pretty slim.
Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix both turn in phenomenal, Oscar-worthy performances.
I can’t wait to sit and have a serious discussion about this movie with my film friends. Maybe by then I’ll have formed some more concrete opinions about the actual subject matter.
