On the eve of the Chinese New Year, three strangers, Crystal Shackleford, married to a wealthy philanderer; Jerome Artbutny, an outwardly respectable judge; and Johnny West, a seedy sneak thief, make a pact before a small statue of the Chinese goddess of Destiny. The threesome agree to purchase a sweepstakes ticket and share whatever winnings might accrue.

This film kicked off the Noir City Film Festival in Chicago. I think this is 4th year they done and the first that I’ve attended (any of the screenings). At least I don’t recall hitting any in the past. This was a great launch for the festival with a big turnout. Really wasn’t sure where the film was headed as three different stories are intertwined. But it comes together well. Peter Lorre is a master.
